THE GEORGIA TECH RESEARCH INSTITUTE HAS PARTNERED WITH CDC AND GRADY HOSPITAL TO PILOT FAST HEALTHCARE INTEROPERABILITY ESOURCES (FHIR) SOFTWARE THAT WILL ABSTRACT MEDICAL RECORDS AUTOMATICALLY. THIS GROUP HAS INVITED US TO PILOT THIS TOOL, CALLED SMARTCHART, USING CASES WE HAVE ABSTRACTED MANUALLY AND REPORTED TO CDC FOR THE ELC COMPONENT W SET-NET PROJECT (GRANT# ELC_ CK19-1904_2020). SMARTCHART ANALYZES MEDICAL RECORDS TO ABSTRACT RELEVANT VARIABLES COLLECTED BY SET-NET WITH THE AIM OF REDUCING THE TIME AND EFFORT NEED BY PERSONNEL TO CONDUCT THIS WORK. THE COLLABORATION IS INTENDED TO EVALUATE SMARTCHART'S VALIDITY IN CONDUCTING THESE ABSTRACTIONS ON PATIENTS WITH NOTIFIABLE DISEASES BEING REPORTED TO CDC THROUGH SET-NET (E.G., SYPHILIS, HEPATITIS C). TO PILOT THIS WORK, DPH WILL NEED TO FACILITATE THE IDENTIFICATION OF APPROPRIATE PATIENTS AND AID GTRI AND CDC IN EVALUATING THE VALIDITY OF THIS TOOL. THE CONTINUATION WILL BE FOR A 12-MONTH PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE. THE RESULTS OF THIS PILOT WITH GRADY, CDC, AND GTRI WILL INFORM THE TOOL'S UTILITY IN AIDING DPH WITH THIS CRUCIAL, YET TIME-CONSUMING WORK OF ABSTRACTING MEDICAL RECORDS AS A PART OF DATA COLLECTION AND REPORTING OF NOTIFIABLE DISEASES TO CDC. PLEASE NOTE GTRI AND GRADY HAVE ESTABLISHED A DUA TO CONDUCT THIS PILOT PROJECT. FOR COMPONENT B, DPH WILL PILOT THE SYPHILIS AUTOMATED RECORDS SEARCH ALGORITHM TO EXPEDITE CASE PRIORITIZATION AND DISPOSITION. THIS TOOL WILL AUTOMATE THE PROCESS OF PRIORITIZATING SYPHILIS SEROLOGIES. THE SYPHILIS AUTOMATED RECORDS SEARCH ALGORITHM AIMS TO REDUCE THE TIME AND EFFORT NEEDED BY PERSONNEL MANUALLY REVIEWING SYPHILIS RECORDS TO IMPROVE PARTNER SERVICE INVESTIGATION TIME FRAMES.
