| Subcontractor | Department of Defense | AH&P WILL CONDUCT ON-SITE, IN-SITU, THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TESTING (TCT) ON MULTIPLE
BOREHOLES (UP TO 3 EACH AND UP TO 500’ DEEP) FOR HEATING INJECTION/TEST DURATIONS OF 48 HOURS OR MORE TO ACCESS THE FORMATION AND THE PROPOSED GROUNDLOOP HEAT EXCHANGERS (U-BENDS OR OTHER GHX
CONFIGURATIONS) BOREHOLE THERMAL RESISTANCE. SPECIFICALLY, WE WILL MEASURE THE UNDISTURBED FORMATION TEMPERATURES, AT VARIOUS DEPTH AFTER OTHERS HAVE DRILLED THE BOREHOLE/PLACED THE GHX AND THE FORMATION HAS RETURNED TO ITS UNDISTURBED TEMPERATURES. WE WILL THEN INJECT HEAT, TYPICALLY AT A RATE OF 15-25 WATTS/FT., INTO THE FORMATION AND MEASURE THE THERMAL RESPONSE OF THE FORMATION. NEXT USING THE LINE SOURCE METHOD, WE WILL DETERMINE THE IN-SITU, OVERALL THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY (K) OF THE FORMATION WITH AN R2 FIT OF 0.95 OR BETTER. NEXT, WE WILL, BASED ON THE GEOLOGICAL LOGS/CLASSIFICATION OF THE CUTTINGS, CALCULATE THE WEIGHTED AVERAGE OF THE FORMATION’S THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY (Α). LASTLY, WE WILL, UTILIZING THE DATA COLLECTED, TO DETERMINE THE AVERAGE BOREHOLE THERMAL RESISTANCE (BTR) OF EACH OF THE TESTED BOREHOLES TO HELP ASSIST WITH THE DETERMINATION OF THE FINAL BOREHOLE ARCHITECTURE CLEMSON WILL SELECT FOR THE PROJECT. ALL WORK WITH BE CONDUCTED WITHIN OR EXCEEDING THE RECOMMENDATIONS PROVIDE BY ASHRAE AND THE INTERNATIONAL GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP ASSOCIATION (IGSHPA).
