TO BUILD A FULL-SCALE HORUS PROTOTYPE AS REQUIRED BY CONTRACT DELIVERABLES, WE NEED 8 EXTREMELY HIGH-PERFORMANCE MONO CAMERAS. AFTER AN EXTENSIVE REVIEW OF COTS CAMERAS, WE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE ATIK APX60 AS, BY FAR, THE MOST SUITABLE CAMERA FOR THE HORUS SYSTEM. IN FACT, THE PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS OF THE HORUS SYSTEM ARE DIRECTLY BASED ON THE APX60, AND COULD NOT BE ACHIEVABLE WITHOUT SUCH A HIGH-PERFORMANCE COTS CAMERA. ATIK HAS FURTHER BEEN WILLING (ON THEIR OWN TIME AND WITHOUT FUNDING FROM NUMERICA) TO MAKE SEVERAL MEANINGFUL HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE UPDATES TO THE APX60 (PRECISION TIMING TRIGGERS, FAST FRAMING MODE, SOFTWARE RELIABILITY) THAT HAVE PULLED THIS CAMERA EVEN FURTHER BEYOND ITS COTS COMPETITION. THE APX60 WILL THEREFORE FORM THE BASE SENSOR FOR THE HORUS SYSTEM AND ENABLE COMPLETION OF THE PH II, RESULTING IN A HIGH-PERFORMANCE, LOW-COST LEO TRACKING SOLUTION.
